WHO Cone Test
The WHO Cone Bioassay is performed to determine the effectiveness of materials coated with mosquito repellent agents. This test can be applicable for different types of products including impregnated textiles, sprays, netting materials etc.
Method
- Cone bioassay is conducted by using standard WHO cones and exposure procedures.
- The cones are securely positioned on treated surfaces.
- Known number of Female mosquitoes are introduced in each cone for a specific exposure period.
- After completion of exposure period, knock-down rate is assessed.
- In the next step, mosquitoes are transferred to paper cups and kept in the insectary under controlled conditions maintained at (at 25±2˚C, 80±5% RH) with 10% sugar water.
- After the exposure period, mortality rates are observed to assess any delayed mortality.
